Trouble can be easily sought when off roading in Sarawak. Getting off the covered trunk road, one often gets greeted by loose surface tracks and then when you get off these tracks the real thing starts.
Borneo mud.. mud at its best...
Just outside Kuching is Rayu and this place has the best mud. Mud has been described as having a Byzantine form - the word from a Russian empire which had various levels of complex aristocratic governing systems.. well you get the idea.
Getting off the 'main' road into muddy conditions was one of the things that needed to be done. My trusty Toyota BJ73 had lockers but I had not connected the air or cable mechanism to activate them. So the best thing was to deflate the tyres to 20 psi and continued on. After much scouting and muddy driving, its time to get back on the highway and 20 psi would be dangerous to drive on covered roads.

Out comes the Busnranger Pro Air comperssor. Hook on the terminals to the battery, connect the air hose to the tyre and hit the on switch. To inflate all four tyres took about 15 mins. The time wasn't a major concern as we had refreshment and took time to chat about the trails we went through. We also did not find the unit heating up to badly. There was no need for the heat cut-off to engage but we stopped to let the compressor cool for a moment or two between cars. In all we inflated 4 cars. For the Simex Centipede 35" extreme tryes it took about 5 mins per tyre to go from 15 psi to 23 psi. The important thing for this review is that the Bushranger Pro-air compressor worked and worked well.
We're thinking to hooking up the compressor to an air tank and then running the air for our lockers in the very near future. When we do that, we'll update this page again.
The Pro-Air Compressor comes with a robust carry bag - more important for ladies who want a neat car. It is compact. The main body of the air pump is cast alloy and has Stainless Steel valves and has 'high performance' piston rings. Ah.. no air reservoir tank.
The air hose was long enough to comfortably reach a jacked tyre, helped by the 5m long power cord.
Bushranger claims :
- Auto cut off to prevent overheating
- Air flow of 32 lpm @ 30 psi output
- Max working pressure 150 psi (more than sufficient to work air lockers)
- It has a maximum run time of 40 mins @ 30 psi @ 24'C
