4X4 JAMBOREE
KINABALU: The Kinabalu Four Wheel Drive Club (KFWDC) and
its counterpart the 4x4 Adventure Club Kuala Lumpur (ACKL) has set a
mutual and cordial understanding to give each other cooperation and
support towards their activities.
This understanding of sort came about during the
inaugural Malaysia 4x4 Jamboree, organised by ACKL, where KFWDC
president James Wong led exco and working committee members to witness
the 3-day event held at Sungai Sendat, Ulu Yam, Selangor from July
11-13.
Following a special invitation by ACKL president Chong
Kon Fong and Secretary Dr. Wong, James along with the KFWDC members
held talks and discussions with the former during the jamboree, where
both parties agreed to work hand in hand in bringing about the awareness
of 4x4 activities between the East Malaysian and West Malaysian sides.
As part of their familiarization visit, the KFWDC members
were able to get the insight of the Peninsular based 4x4 and off-road
enthusiasts’ and also the concept adopted by ACKL in staging the
jamboree, where a total of 50 hardcore competitors took part.
Off-road enthusiasts from all over Peninsular Malaysia
converged at the Ulu Yam Forest Reserve camp site, about 3 hours drive
from the city, to enjoy their hobby of passion for adventure that
showcased their off-roading skills in several tough special stages,
amidst safety and environmental friendly concept.
The event, known as the X-Zone event has evolved from a
friendly challenge to an annual occasion attracting international
competitions which involved some hardcore enthusiast from few foreign
countries.
Participants competed in four categories namely, modified
class above 2401 cc, modified class below 2400 cc, standard class and
inter-government department for top three winners in each category
pocketing attractive cash prizes at the end of the day.
“This is not just about 4WD enthusiast pitting their
skills against each other, it is about further developing the spirit of
sportsmanship and encouraging participants as well as to promote
adventure tourism,” Chong said.
“Apart from the camaraderie concept, the event also
featured other activities as such camping out, photography contest and
motor shows that provided additional activities for families and the
public to get involve in the event.”
He added, in conjunction with the camp-out aspect, a
campfire party was staged with the theme Passion Unchained coupled with
life entertainment to add to the glitters of the event.
At the end of the jamboree, a tree-planting ceremony was
held which symbolized the preservation of rainforest that was hope to be
able to encourage the public develop a respect to environment, while at
the same time develop adventure tourism in the country.
James on the other hand said, the visit to the jamboree
by KFWDC members has been beneficial for them to instill some valuable
tips for KFWDC to further improve its quality in staging similar annual
4x4 jamborees and also the coming Borneo Safari this October 25 – Nov 1.
He added, their visit also gave them a chance to meet and
offered early invitations to 4x4 enthusiasts in Peninsular Malaysia
including ACKL members to consider their invitations to join in this
year’s Borneo Safari.
James pointed out, they expect better representations
coming from Peninsular Malaysia this year taking into account of the
jamboree participants’ interest in wanting to join in the fray merely to
enjoy and share similar passion for adventure in the wild.
