KINABALU: An Auto Workshop owner and renowned off-road competitor Chang
Ket Kiun has been picked to compete in this year’s International Borneo
Safari 4x4 Challenge under a foreign corporate sponsorship.

The 43-year-old
Kudat hardcore, popularly know among 4x4 enthusiasts as Kudat Kiun,
yesterday was named by ThyssenKrupp Bilstein Tuning GmbH of Germany to
don its colours in this year’s event.
Kudat Kiun, who has
all along been an active and avid 4x4 hardcore competitor with his
co-driver brother Chang Ket Vui, was picked by the German-based 4x4
shock absorbers manufacturer from several candidates from Sabah.
His sponsorship was
announced by its Sabah-based sole distributor, Borneo 4WD and General
Trading Sdn Bhd proprietor Lim Tai Yin or Borneo Lim at his outlet
yesterday.
Borneo Lim, who on
behalf of the German company said, Kudat Kiun’s entry in this year’s
Borneo Safari will be called as Team Bilstein, where he will receive
Bilstein sponsorship as one of the hardcore competitors.

The four-time Borneo
Safari Champion (1999, 2001, 2002 and 2005), who specializes in four
wheel drive modifications and fabrication among others will get six sets
of branded and off-road shock absorbers including the corporate entrance
fee.

Kudat Kiun, who is
at present upgrading his souped up Isuzu, has also won the Rainforest
Challenge in 2004, the Sarawak 4x4 Challenge in 2008, Labuan 4x4
Challenge this year and numerous other off-road events.
The decision to find
a suitable candidate to don its colours came about last month when its
Regional Sales manager for Asia, Africa and Oceania Martin Hyar made a
visit to Borneo 4WD outlet, along Jalan Penampang.

Bilstein has been one of the regular sponsors towards the Borneo Safari
events and has requested KFWDC and Borneo Lim to make their
recommendations, but the final choice of candidate came from his
assessment.
The German company
has also assured KFWDC that this year, they will again sponsor in kind
that is 50 percent more than last year’s give aways for prizes.
The other foreign
companies who have also confirmed dishing similar and bigger
sponsorships as prizes to KFWDC worth totaling more than RM75,000
through Borneo Lim as their soles distributors are ARB or Kings Springs
of Australia, Disc Brake Australia Pty Ltd, Fully Equipped Limited of
New Zealand, Safari Automotive Technologies of Australia, Fulcrum
Suspension of Australia, Perma Cool of USA, Queensland Friction Material
and Lightforce Australia among the few.
Borneo Lim has also
decided to be one of the generous sponsors with even bigger sponsorship
this year as well.
