The
COMMANDO TRAIL
Tringgus - Semban- Bengoh
There were two significant events that
rocked Sarawak's otherwise peaceful history. They were World War II
(1941-1945) and Confrontation with Indonesia (1963-65). We have heard it
rumored that some commandoes and their native trekkers had gone through
this trail to engage the enemy in both instances.
For the local natives, this was the only
way for them to visit one another before the advent of roads and motor
vehicles. Our local village host Taya's uncle was the person who
frequently walked and maintained this trail until his demise over 10
years ago.
The trail starts in the Bau area from the
village of Tringgus where we ascend the Victory Pass - a significant V
in the mountain range. We then descend into a crater like bowl and trek
on undulating terrain until we hit the Semban river where our ascend
begins on the Stairmaster Challenge, a three tier 400 meter ascend to
the Village of Semban. We'll stay with our local host at his homestay.
It takes about 10 hours to walk this trail.
The following morning, its an early wake
up call to trek up 100 meters to see the sun rise over Bengoh Valley.
After we'll return back down for breakfast and then head out to the
waterfall for a swim and relaxation. After lunch back at the homestay,
we'll head down to past Eagle's Point and the village of Bohjong to the
Dam where vans will be waiting for us.
