Ba’Kelalan,
Murud, Merarap,
Lawas 5D/4N Expedition
This trip is designed
to begin hard and then retreat to the Merarap Hot Springs Lodge to relax
your tired muscles. It starts by flying into Ba'Kelalan, climbing
up to Mt. Murud and going overland to Merarap Hot Spring Lodge. This is
rated as a Difficult Trek.
Day 1 -
Miri, Ba'Kelalan, Apple Lodge (L & D)
From Miri, fly to Ba'Kelalan, a rice growing village in the Sarawak
highlands. We'll check into Apple Lodge which is by the air strip and
have lunch. In the afternoon, embark on a walking tour of this scenic
village. Among the places we'll visit are the temperate fruit orchards,
vegetables farms, rice paddies and border trading posts. Free and easy
after dinner.
Day 2 (B,L,D)
After an early morning breakfast, depart Ba'Kelalan to Lepo Bunga (2-3hr
drive). From Lepo Bunga we enter the trail head and begin our ascend to
the ridge (about 2 hours, alt 2,000m). We'll stop for packed lunch here. The trek goes through the
different vegetation of the montane forest where unique flora are
plentiful including Nepenthes, rhodendrens and orchids. The trek climbs
gradually to Reked Meligan, the Holy Ground where the Church Camp is
located. (1.5 hrs trek, alt 2,100m). We'll check into a mountain hut with basic
facilities. Here you would need to set-up your bedding place. Dinner and overnight mountain hut.
Day 3 (B,L,D)
After breakfast, one has an option of
either doing a trek to the Summit Plateau (2 hours) or go on a more
relaxing visit to Batu
Linanit for commanding vistas of the rainforest. Both areas have
unique flora because of its micro environment. Lunch and Dinner
provided. Overnight mountain hut.
Day 4
(B,L,D)
After an early breakfast, pack up and descend down the mountain. Get
into 4X4 at Lepo Bunga or the Heli pad and transfer to
Merarap Hot
Spring Lodge. Pack lunch along the way. Check-in Merarap and relax in
the comfortable surroundings. Dinner and overnight Merarap.
Day 5 (B)
After breakfast, pick -up and overland transfer to Lawas 69km to take
flight out.
Note:
- It is highly required for trekkers to be
fit and conditioned for trekking. One would need to be trekking
regularly in all conditions.
- We are able to arrange for extra porters
at your own expense to carry your items. It is expected that guest
backpack their own items such as clothes, etc.
- Bring money in small change. One can only
buy items in Ba'Kelalan (Day 1), Merarap and Lawas (Days 4 & 5)
