Trekking trip packing list for: Mt. Murud to Bario trek

 

1. Bags/rucksack

  • Good quality and fitted rucksack min. 48 liters, preferably with rain cover and hydration system.
  • Bring extra plastic bags to keep essentials dry (should it pour)
  • Bring extra bags for rubbish and miscellaneous items

 

2. Bedding

  • Sleeping bag anything from +15'C to 0’C rating
  • Sleeping pad/ air mattress

 

3. Clothes

  • 1 set for trekking which get dirty from mud and sweat – preferably quick dry. Wash this at the end of each day. Best to wear long sleeve shirt and convertible pants/shorts.
  • 1 set clean clothes for sleeping in and after shower (consider for cooler temperatures)
  • For Mt. Murud – one fleece (micro fiber is best)
  • 1 more extra set of clothes in case clothes does not dry
  • 1 coolmax type long sleeve T (this can be used as additional layer should it get cold)
  • Underwear – fresh ones everyday. Wash daily if possible.
  • Micro travel towel
  • Bandana or small towel (a must actually)
  • Hat / Buff
  • Poncho (light plastic type)

Dressing advice: We found that wearing thighs or better known as compression shorts is good prevention against chaffing. On long hikes it gets humid and sticky around the crouch (especially men) and the buttock cheeks, this will make things a lot more comfortable.  

 

4. Footwear

  • Trekking socks – 1 pair for 2 days
  • Trekking shoes/boots preferably mesh that will not hold water and removable soles that dry quickly
  • Gaiters
  • Slippers/sandals for yucky bathrooms or casual wearing

 

5. Hydration

  • Camelbak or hydration  bladder (3L best)
  • Nalgene bottle (1L for stiripen)
